Report from Mid-Year Lunch: 6 Jul 14

On Sunday 6th July , 74 Members gathered for this year’s Mid-Year Lunch at The Royal Coach for a Carvery meal, an opportunity to catch up with other Members and lots of laughter. The Club supplied welcoming drinks and also the beverages for the rest of the afternoon; so all in all, it was a very good value day for $20.00 per person for our Members.

This is the largest gathering since I have been Social Secretary, so well done everyone who attended. Naturally all the ladies looked very smart and the men scrubbed up as well. Never seen so many ties, who would have thought!

David Jarrett, our newly appointed club vice-president was the MC for the day  David has been known to tell a risqué joke in his time but he covered himself with glory on this occasion with a cracking story that was clean as a whistle.

David also ventured into risky territory with the surprise announcement of a ‘game show’ routine.  Looking around, there wasn’t a soul not laughing at some point.  A great initiative and truly fun for all.

David did a marvellous job in keeping the proceedings of the day moving smoothly and can’t wait for him to MC the Christmas Function.

Jenny Bolto, who had very kindly agreed to set up the displays, started her day at 11:30 am to ensure that the room was set up for the 19 or 20 Members who had offered to display their wares. We had an amazing variety of items displayed including, paintings, photographs, pottery, glass blowing, metal work, quilting, cushions, novels, doll making, antique Japanese fabrics made into runners and cushions and a hand crafted miniature tool set. I may have forgotten an item or two that was displayed, so if I have, please forgive me.   It was amazing to see just how many talented Members we have within our Club.  The displays looked really great and I hope everyone had an opportunity to look at the items.

Des Long, our President, spoke about how the Club is really firing at present and he went on to introduce the newly elected Committee Members.

The Committee had recently decided to revive the practice of recognising membership longevity so Des acknowledged a number of Club members who had reached a milestone Anniversary but who had not been formally recognised for their long-term support and in many cases Committee service to the club.   Each received an Anniversary Badge for the years of membership in the Club.

Congratulation to the following recipients:

Lynne & Roger Trethewey –  20 Years

Peter Papageorgakis – 15 Years

Allen & Dianne Weber – 15 Years

David & Judy Jarrett – 10 Years

Chris & Dianne Parker – 10 Years

Des also explained the new Perpetual Trophy that has been sponsored by Gaetjens Real Estate and Seniors Real Estate Specialists. This trophy will be presented for the best Club Event from this year with also a $250.00 cash prize. This will be known as the “Event of the Year” trophy.

Thank you to the Royal Coach for looking after us once again, David Jarrett for being an outstanding MC, Jenny Bolto for organizing all the displays, all the Members who displayed their wares, Kari Soutter for the slide show of previous Club Events, Chris Soutter for being our official photographer and Des Long for supplying the background music.
